ABOUT US |
The Department of
Immigration is a Government institution that falls under the umbrella of the
Ministry of Home Affairs. It is charged with a critical responsibility of
facilitating and regulating the movement of persons entering and leaving the
country and control the stay of immigrants and visitors.
The department
was established through an act of Parliament in 1965, when it was moved from the
Police Department to form the Immigration and Passport Department.
In
1976, the Government through the Personnel Division streamlined the operations
of the department further by separating the functions of issuance of passports
into a separate Department called National Registration, Passport and Citizenship
Office and the current Department of Immigration.
The department's ultimatum is to provide a condusive atmosphere
for investment and tourism.
The Department has its headquarters
in the
capital
city Lusaka. There
are also provincial headquarters in all the nine provinces of Zambia. It has other
offices situated in all parts of the country called internal Immigration
Controls to service people around the country.
In this way the Department of Immigration is
committed to ensuring that all foreign workers, investors, tourists and other
visitors are given quality service in any part of our country without
delay. (see the Contacts page for
