21-07-2021 – The Immigration Office at Katima-Mulilo Border Control is in receipt of nineteen (19) Zambians removed from Namibia by that country’s authorities. The group of males aged between 20 and 45 was received on 17th July 2021 after being removed for abrogating various Namibian Laws. Eleven (11) were removed for illegal fishing, six (06) for unlawful presence, one (01) for illegal entry, and one (01) for possession of marijuana. Similarly, two (02) Zambians were also received by Officers at Sakania Border Control after they were removed from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for staying in that country illegally.
In another development, Immigration Officers in Livingstone on 18th July 2021 intercepted eleven (11) Tanzanians for giving false information to a Public Officer. The group was apprehended at the Weigh Bridge along the Lusaka-Livingstone Road aboard a South Africa-bound Juldan Motors Bus. This was after they failed to give concise and consistent accounts as to the purpose of their journey. They entered the country purporting to visit Zambia but were instead transiting to South Africa. Had they been allowed to proceed they would have been denied entry into Zimbabwe as it is on lock-down for non-essential travel. They have since been declared to leave the country.
Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration between 16th and 20th July 2021 apprehended forty-six (46) persons of different nationalities for various immigration offences country-wide. During this same period, the Department also removed twenty-seven (27) illegal immigrants from the country and secured forty-five (45) convictions.
We wish to advise Zambians, especially those residing in border towns to respect the laws of neigbouring Countries. Any Zambian wishing to travel to any country must ensure that they have the pre-requisite documents to enter and remain in that country to avoid the embarrassment of being arrested, prosecuted, or even deported. We would further wish to encourage anyone in doubt of admission requirement for any country to consult that country’s foreign mission in Zambia or contact the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
