30-05-2022 – The Department of Immigration, on Sunday, 29th May, 2022 apprehended Two-Hundred and Two (202) persons of different nationalities. This was on the last day of a three (03) day clean-up operation conducted in various parts of Lusaka bringing the number of persons nabbed from 27th to 29th May, 2022 to Four-Hundred and Thirty-Six (436).

After the screening exercise, the Officers released Fifty-Seven (57) persons upon production of proof of legal immigration status in Zambia and mandated Seventy-Two (72) to report to Immigration Headquarters for further investigations. Meanwhile, the Department detained Three Hundred and Thirteen (313) suspected illegal immigrants pending other formalities. The operation was led by the Department of Immigration, with the close involvement of Officers from other security wings.

We are concerned by the growing trend where some members of the public are harbouring illegal immigrants by providing them with accommodation, lodging facilities, and sub-letting to them immovable property such as shops and market stalls. Harbouring is unlawful and is punishable under the Immigration and Deportation Act No.18 of 2010 of the Laws of Zambia.

We remain committed to facilitating and regulating migration to contribute to internal security and sustainable socio-economic development.
