30-06-2022 – The Department of Immigration, on 29th June 2022, rounded-up Sixty-Three (63) suspected prohibited immigrants. The suspects were nabbed during a Department of Immigration-led Joint clean-up operation conducted in Kasumbalesa. Those initially apprehended were Forty-Eight (48) Congolese, Nine (9) Somalis, Four (4) Tanzanians, and Two (2) Eritreans. After the initial screening exercise, the Officers released the Nine (9) Somalis and Two (2) Eritreans upon production of Refugee Certificates and valid mobility passes. However, the Forty-Eight (48) Congolese and Four (4) Tanzanians have so far been unable to produce any documentation justifying their presence in Zambia. As a result, the Department has detained the Fifty-Two (2) suspects at Chingola Correctional Facility pending further processes. The operation aimed to rid Kasumbalesa of illegal immigrants following a public outcry of an influx of illegal immigrants.

Meanwhile, the Ndola Regional Immigration Office intends to remove Fifty-One (51) Prohibited Immigrants from the country after paying their respective fines following convictions for unlawful stay. The Prohibited Immigrants whom the Department will remove are Forty-Eight (48) Tanzanians, Twenty-One (21) of whom were among those apprehended on 25th June 2022 during the Kitwe Clean-up operation, and Three (3) Burundians.

We wish to urge Foreign nationals, particularly the Border Community Residents, to follow the legally prescribed procedure for entering the country, including appearing before an Immigration Officer. We also wish to appeal to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases of illegal migration to the nearest Immigration Office.
