19-09-2022 – The Department of Immigration in Lusaka, on 18th September 2022, removed forty-nine (49) Ethiopians from the country. They were removed via Kenneth Kaunda International Airport after being arrested for illegal entry and unlawful stay. The removals are part of an ongoing exercise aimed at reducing the number of Ethiopians detained at various Correctional Facilities across the country, which began on 8th September 2022. The removal of the forty-nine (49) brings the number of Ethiopians removed since the start of the exercise to One Hundred and Fifty-Six (156).

Meanwhile, the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office has apprehended twenty (20) persons for various immigration offences. This was during a routine operation conducted on 16th September 2022 in Kamwala, Kamwala South, Libala, Chalala, and Kabwata. Those nabbed were Six (6) Burundians, six (6) Tanzanians, five (5) Congolese, and three (3) others whose nationalities are yet to be determined. The suspects are detained pending prosecution.

Similarly, the Solwezi Regional Immigration Office, on 16th September 2022 apprehended eight (8) persons for various immigration offences. These were four (4) Tanzanians nabbed for conducting business without permits, two (2) Congolese, and two (2) Burundians apprehended for illegal entry and unlawful stay. The Lusaka and Solwezi operations bring the number of persons arrested for various Immigration Offences between 16th and 18th September 2022 to fifty-nine (59).

The Department of Immigration, between 16th and 18th September 2022, secured seven (7) convictions and refused five (5) foreign nationals entry into Zambia for failing to meet various entry requirements.
