25-11-2022 – The Department of Immigration, on 23rd November 2022, removed Thirty-Four (34) Ethiopians after serving prison sentences for offences of illegal entry and unlawful stay. They were apprehended in various parts of the country, predominantly Eastern, Muchinga, and Central Provinces, where they were convicted and served prison sentences before being transferred to Lusaka for removal. They left Zambia for Ethiopia, their country of origin, aboard an Ethiopian Airline Flight via Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

The removal of the Thirty-Four (34) Ethiopians is part of a removal programme aimed at reducing the number of Ethiopians detained at various Correctional Facilities across the country, which began on 8th September 2022. The programme’s initial phase involved documentation of the Ethiopian detainees, as they were all undocumented at the time of their arrests. The latest removals bring the total number of Ethiopians removed between 8th September and 24th November 2022 to Seven Hundred and Ninety-Four (794).   It also brings the number of illegal immigrants of different nationalities removed between 18th and 24th November 2022 to One Hundred and Ten (110).

Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration, between 18th and 24th November 2022, apprehended One-Hundred and One (101) persons for various immigration offences, secured Fifty-Seven (57) convictions, and refused Seven (7) persons entry into Zambia for failing to meet entry requirements.
