2-06-2022 – The Department of Immigration in Luangwa has detained Forty-One (41) undocumented Ethiopians in a suspected human smuggling case. The Officers captured the first group of Thirty-Three (33) on 30th May, 2022, and another group of Eight (08) on 1st June, 2022. They were all apprehended in Amoro Village, situated 15km from Luangwa Boma, in an ongoing operation by security wings in Luangwa District. The East Africans are detained at Luangwa Police station and will soon be transferred to Lusaka for further formalities.

Similarly, the Department of Immigration in Mpika, on 1st June, 2022, apprehended a 52-year-old Tanzanian Truck Driver, Joseph Frank Mukede, in a suspected smuggling case involving six (06) undocumented Ethiopians. The Officers discovered the six (06) Ethiopians inside a modified storage space on the chassis of a Lusaka-bound Howo Truck registration No.T426DXY and Trailer registration No.T319DYD. The suspects are detained at Mpika Correctional Facility pending further investigations and possible prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Department of Immigration, on 1st June, 2022 removed Forty-Nine (49), illegal immigrants countrywide and apprehended Twelve (12) persons for various immigration offences. The Department also secured three (03) convictions.
