07-01-2021 – Officers from the Lusaka Regional Immigration Office have apprehended Sixty-two (62) suspected illegal immigrants in a clean-up operation conducted on 5th January 2021. This is part of the many measures the Department has lined-up for the year to rid the country of illegal immigrants.  

The areas covered were Zani Muwone, Mandevu, Chazanga and Kamwala-South. Other areas were Chalala, Kabanana and Kabangwe. Among the detained were twenty-eight (28) Burundians, nineteen (19) Congolese, ten (10) Rwandese and two (02) Tanzanians. All suspects remain detained pending immigration formalities.

Meanwhile, in other parts of the country, the Department of Immigration between 4th and 6th January 2021 apprehended twenty-eight (28) persons of different nationalities for various immigration offences. During this period the Department also secured twenty-two (22) convictions and removed forty-seven (47) illegal immigrants from the country.

The Department wishes to encourage anyone aware of an individual, business, or employer who may be aiding and abetting illegal immigrants to contact the Department of Immigration.
